Course Reflection

Throughout this course, I have learned a lot. I have learned what it’s like to interact with other people and interpret creative pieces in my own way. I learned that not everyone has the same creative ideas, but that’s a good thing. We can’t all be exactly the same. I’ve begun to understand that creativity is sometimes a difficult place to reach, no matter what it’s being used for, but the minute a good idea strikes, I just can’t seem to stop working. I’ve especially begun to realize that I do, in fact, have a specific creative style. I always try to make a connection back to something that I love or that I had growing up. It takes a lot of hard work to complete a project, though. I always love coming up with these really elaborate ideas, but I never think about how much time I have to complete them first. I pretty much tell myself “wow I could totally build a rocketship in 3 class periods and a weekend, no biggie” and then I end up working super late a couple of nights, but it’s...

Improv Video + Reflection

It was difficult in the beginning to pick music and to know how to start the piece, but once we started, it was very easy to continue (especially after adding in the words). It was interesting to be able to connect the piece with the music and I found it fascinating when we were all able to raise our hearts at the same moment but then all go in different directions. It was a bit frustrating to pick music, that alone took 2 classes while we were trying to work. I think our mood towards the project changed throughout the process because at first, we were all frustrated with starting it, but when we finished, everyone was relieved we had put together a good piece. Even though I can be a bit of a talkative person who likes to constantly contribute ideas to groups, I feel that everyone had a say in the final project with lighting and movements. We had to improvise a little bit of our piece towards the end because we didn’t originally have a planned ending, we went with the flow and ch...

My Creative Journey

Image
Everyone has a different creative process. That's because we are all unique individuals. Everyone ended up with a different final product for their projects because we all had different interpretations during our nature walk and other pieces along the way. I got the most information for my project on the nature walk and from the artist I chose to compare my ideas with. The funny thing is the actual idea to make a cowboy hat didn't occur to me until I was talking to a friend of mine about country music and how you can't be considered a country artist unless you have some sort of cowboy hat. I swear an actual light bulb probably went off above my head and I was super excited to start working on my project. I did get a bit frustrated working on my project, though. It was tough to make sure I cut out all of the cardboard correctly and added as much detail as possible with the materials I had (I think I went through 2 entire rolls of tape!!). My partner artist helped me to add a...

Classmate Critiques

Izzy: Overall, I loved your idea and design. I saw a lot of elements from the artist you chose woven into your piece, and I liked your perception on what a jewelry holder could be on a more creative level. If I were to have anything to say about this, I wish that I saw a piece of jewelry with a pop of color in the center to bring it all together. I really connected with the aluminum, though, because in the hat I created, I used a lot of shimmery items, and I feel that we both went in the same direction with trying to incorporate the reflection of the water in our designs. All in all, I loved your piece and I would rate it a 10/10! Peter: I loved your fishing lure! It was so creative and very colorful! The part that stood out to me the most was the usage of the flowers from our walk and the eye was super cool and creative, too. I connected the most with the flowers in your design because I used similar colors for the colors of my flowers on my hat. I liked your representation, but ...

Joseph Mallord William Turner & Me

Image
My sources of inspiration were mainly places / things with reflections, or plants. The artist I chose has a similar style, although he was a painter. His name is Joseph Mallord William Turner, and he lived from 1775-1851. Three of his paintings are in the top left corner of my mood board because they correlate with the ideas and pictures I have been working with for my project.
